We walked about 5 miles along the new sea wall. The old sea wall has been breached in several places so that the area can flood to allow salt marshes. It's a very ambitious project and they plan to do similar with the whole island. While we were there we saw several birdwatchers taking down data. There was a HUGE flock of Brent Geese hanging out in the fields and countless other species of bird. We had a look through one of the birdwatchers bionic binoculars.
The irony of this place is that it was the home of King Canute who supposedly ordered the waves back.....actually I think he ordered the waves back to prove that he was simply human not to show how cool he was....But anyway now on his island they are ordering the waves to come back!
We shall definitely be coming back. The place is so tranquil and the birds really are fascinating.
